Escape from visually cluttered environment

Welcome to first post on offical Pictoico visual initiative blog. I am Luka Pensa, founder of this initiative and graphic designer specialized in logo design, improving user interface experience and usability by simplifying it.

All of us embrace one-on-one, up close and personal encounters with graphic design elements named icons; as a matter of fact, you might be surrounded with at least few of them at this very moment, reading my first blog post in your favorite web browser.

Instead of doing their task, conveying the message they should to the end user, today's icons are in most cases a showcase of advanced graphic technology and designers' abilities, without a real, clearly defined message in them.

Through this blog I will be regularly publishing news and updates regarding the initiative, articles and real life examples of how pictograms should be used, why icons are not so good (actually, they are bad) solution for your projects and why 'less is more' practice makes sense.

There will also be screencasts, tutorials and other articles that will help every interested party to actively participate in development and growth of this initiative.

Until next post, I hope you will find Pictoico useful and will enjoy the first, introductory, free to download collection of over 100 fully scalable pictograms.

If you wish to be more familiar with Pictoico, read all articles on homepage as I am sure you will find it useful.

If you want to give a suggestion, request something or simply have an idea for the initiative (no matter how obvious or obsolete you might think it is), let's communicate publicly, brainstorm together and get something wonderful out of it. The best way to do that is via Twitter: @pictoico right now!
